Penny-Pincher Princess
Whether you're going casual, or rockin' the latest trends, you do so without breaking the bank. Cuz even though you wanna look your best, you're not a slave for fashion! Instead of spending all your time at the mall, you prefer to be out and about -- hitting up an outdoor music festival, local flea market, or coffee shop. You see make-up 'n' style as accessories more than necessities.

something i took when i wanted to find out how materialistic i was!
last month during church camp when we talked about materialism in the women's discussion group i defined materialism as deriving pleasure and self-esteem from material goods. which we all know doesn't get you anywhere

but yesterday's discussion and heart to heart talk with priscilla from the canteen to the stairway at level 3 coupled with today's papers' feature on what singaporean couples need in order to have more children got me thinking!

and i have concluded that no matter how materialistic or mercenary i seem(to be fair i don't think i'm overly so anyway) i have to admit that it's better to marry someone who is materially well-off.

priscilla asked me if i had to consider two proposals -one from a guy who was poor but whom i loved and one from a guy who was rich but whom i liked, and assuming ideal characteristics for both(mentally sound, christian, funny, etc etc), who would i marry? so my answer was the rich one

considering everything that's been said in the papers today i.e. deterrents from having babies(high cost of living, competitive stressful lifestyles, a career to develop....which really are realistic, pertinent issues) and conclusions i've gained from looking back on my childhood i think it's unrealistic to marry based on love and love alone.

since i am bent on having children(more than 2 preferably!) and with children comes a whole plethora of issues like how to give them the best in life, university education, enrichment, treats, good food then i'd rather enter in a marriage where there are sufficient conditions to build love up, rather than one where there are preexisting conditions to tear the love down. there's bound to be struggles over how many children we are able to bring up, what we can afford for the children, what kind of lifestyle we should adopt and such. while i think it's also too idealistic to assume that if a girl marries a rich guy everything will be rosy and happy(which is not exactly true - you have to consider if the guy will stray and if the guy is more goodlooking than you because if so the marriage won't be very happy) there are less challenges in a marriage with a richer person that can enable the love to grow stronger relative to one with a poorer person.

that's how i view things because looking back on how far my family has come i don't want to be pressured by money issues and much less quarrel over them.it isn't worth it.

so if i were a guy, i'd definitely look at all the mercenary women and be pissed off but i think it shouldn't stop guys from working hard and earning enough to not be considered poor. life costs a lot! if i'm that ideal and some other ideal rich kid gets chosen over me just based on money, it isn't worth it either.

there's a lot of stigma attached to women who go after rich guys. i think it's only right to see them in a negative light if the women in question hoard money instead of tithing to the Lord and see rich men as their passport to extravagance. power corrupts! i won't go down that road. but i can guarantee that unless i'm willing to decrease my standard of living for the rest of my life and for my children as well there will be a lot of friction over money issues. and i absolutely don't want to quarrel and bear grudges against anybody.

:D i think this is an overly early take on marriage, when what i really need to consider are prelims and As in the not so far-off distance. but at least it made me realise another reason why priscilla and i are such good friends-because we think alike!:D
