having dinner at my grandmother's place every wednesday always gets me thinking about gender roles.
so i think about gender every wednesday
especially when i dry the dishes after my mum washes them while talking to my grandma at the same time
while my father brother and grandfather are in the living room watching tv.
it's almost like a rule of nature that the kitchen becomes a woman's domain and that i fulfill my duties in it!
as i dry the dishes i always imagine what would happen if i say, okay this is the 21st century so daddy and caleb! you go in and wash the dishes.
there are a couple of ramifications. firstly i must say it in teochew so my grandma understands. second, i risk being the joke of my tribe. not very appealing. i always wonder why i defer to this kind of stereotyping and degradation so willingly and silently! but maybe that's taking things too far since its only drying dishes...at least in my own home gender equality is the way of life since both my parents do housework.
okay on to the fluffier issues in life that occupy my mind more than gender equality.
i am so glad that there are more movies in store !

it's december already. D for December and Depressing and Death and Dying and Disgusting and Demoralising and Decapitated and Denial and Detrimental and Departure and Desperate and DIE-ALREADY-I'M-GOING-TO-TAKE-MY-ALEVELS-NEXT-YEAR.
D is for disciplined and dynamic i need both qualities a lot.
