mr jeremy screened GATTACA for us today! it's a really cool show...because of...JUDE LAW! okay to be fair, partly also because it's about SCIENCE AND ETHICS
i hope we never come to the stage of genetic determinism and discriminating people by utero, vitro and de-gene-erate! even though it's highly possible with the advent of scientific advancements. but i can't imagine choosing which zygote i would want to give birth to on the basis of gender and how perfect he/she would be.
after all, God has a master plan for us, and humans weren't meant to be perfect. imagine having your entire life mapped out for you based on your genome. and then not being able to break the mold your entire life because you will never achieve anything other than what your genome dictates.
sad!
okay speaking about sad. i really respect chenlaoshi and how she broke the message across to us that we were being uncontrollably noisy. but i think there can be better solutions since 405 is a very cohesive and warm and fun-loving class who can and will do better! (:
